SUSTAINABILITY

To Remain a Company Expected to Thrive Beyond a Century

FRANCE BED CO., LTD. aims to be a human-centered company that contributes to realizing a life of “comfort and kindness” through creativity and innovation. Under this corporate philosophy, we promote sustainability management that seeks to balance “comfortable sleep” with a “sustainable society”.

Our Commitment

Taking on the challenge of manufacturing with a vision for a sustainable society

Since its founding in 1949, FRANCE BED CO., LTD. has supported people's health and comfortable lifestyles through the manufacturing and sales of beds, mattresses, and welfare equipment in Japan.

Leveraging our expertise and experience in the fields of sleep and welfare, we provide products and services that enhance the quality of life.

From a sustainability perspective, we contribute to the realization of a sustainable society throughout the entire product lifecycle—by selecting environmentally friendly materials, improving product durability, and adopting designs that facilitate recycling through easy separation.

Sustainable Product Development

Medical Business:
A rental service model that is kind to both the planet and people, making effective use of resources

In our welfare equipment rental business, users can access the products they need, when they need them, and for as long as necessary. Once the equipment is no longer needed, it is collected and maintained by our group company, allowing it to be reused by the next user. This approach enables long-term use of each product, helping to reduce waste and contribute to the development of a circular society. We are also committed to improving product durability and designing with simplicity to support sustainable manufacturing.

Until the equipment arrives

  • Product Selection

We propose the most suitable products based on each user's individual condition and needs.

  • Delivery and Start of Rental Service

We deliver the product directly to the user's home, install it at the designated location, and perform an operational check. We also provide instructions on how to use the product. Throughout the rental period, we monitor the usage to ensure continued safety and comfort.

  • Maintenance After Product Collection

After the rental period ends at the user's home or facility, the product is promptly collected, disinfected, and cleaned. We then perform thorough operational checks, repair any damage, and replace worn components to ensure the product is safe, clean, and ready for its next use. This process supports our commitment to sustainability and contributes to a circular economy.

  • Storage

Each product is managed with a barcode system that records key milestones such as shipping, return, cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance. This ensures thorough tracking of product history. After inspection, products are stored in optimal condition, ready for safe and reliable use by the next customer.

Home Furnishing Business:
Developing environmentally friendly products

The Life Treatment Mattress, FRANCE BED CO., LTD.'s flagship model, is an eco-labeled spring mattress equipped with disinfection* functionality. It is designed with sustainability in mind—featuring recyclable materials in the fabric, cushioning, and springs, and using over 50% recycled polyester fibers. Inside the mattress, our proprietary MORELIY® system enables easy disassembly, supporting both superior comfort and environmental responsibility. This product exemplifies our commitment to sustainable design and resource efficiency.

*In this context, the term “disinfection” is defined as having a high level of antibacterial performance.

The MORELIY® disassembly system allows a mattress to be easily taken apart by a single person. This user-friendly structure encourages individuals to participate in environmentally conscious practices, making the mattress a truly eco-friendly product.

  • Environmental
    Conservation

We are committed to environmental conservation through sustainable product design and responsible resource management.

  • Thermal Recycling

We reuse heat energy from waste incineration to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize landfill waste.

  • Material Recycling

We remanufacture disassembled springs into new ones to promote efficient resource utilization.

  • Easy Disassembly

The tool-free structure allows easy disassembly and user-friendly design.

Corporate Social Responsibility

FRANCE BED CO., LTD. contributes to society through the activities of THE FRANCE BED HOMECARE FOUNDATION and THE FURNITURE MUSEUM FOUNDATION

FRANCE BED HOMECARE FOUNDATION

THE FRANCE BED HOMECARE FOUNDATION is a public interest incorporated foundation that supports home care through research and project grants, education, and information dissemination. Guided by voices from the field, the foundation has grown alongside the evolving needs of society. In recent years, Japan has entered a period of demographic transition marked by declining birthrates, an aging population, and increasing mortality. As a result, the scope of care—its recipients, methods, and providers—is becoming increasingly diverse. The rapid advancement of technology and the growing difficulty in securing qualified professionals are also contributing to significant changes in the homecare landscape.

In response to these societal changes, THE FRANCE BED HOMECARE FOUNDATION will move forward with its future initiatives guided by the following three principles:

  • • Deepening the community-based integrated care system and home care services
  • • Integrated support across medical care, nursing, long-term care, and technology
  • • Advancing technology and preventive care support

Based on these principles, we will continue our efforts to support the realization of a society where everyone can lead a life that reflects their individuality.

THE FURNITURE MUSEUM FOUNDATION

To preserve and pass on Japan’s lifestyle culture to future generations

THE FURNITURE MUSEUM FOUNDATION was established in 1972 with the cooperation of FRANCE BED CO., LTD., with the aim of collecting and preserving historically significant furniture nurtured through everyday life, passing on the culture of furniture to future generations, and contributing to the creation and study of furniture for a new era. In March 2005, the museum was relocated from Harumi to the premises of FRANCE BED Tokyo Factory in Akishima City, where it reopened with renewed facilities.

Interactive Corner

At our museum, we offer an interactive learning space called the “Interactive Corner,” where visitors can engage directly with real materials. Guests are invited to touch and examine wood samples to appreciate the unique texture, scent, and grain patterns of each type of wood. By trying out different chairs, they can feel the distinct comfort each design offers. Visitors can also explore traditional joinery techniques using sample joints to see how pieces fit together.

Through these hands-on activities, our curators provide insightful explanations to deepen understanding of the natural qualities of wood and the craftsmanship behind woodworking.
